Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). A&A Wellness supplies it as a lyophilized powder in a 10mg vial.

Where it fits. Semax is one of two short synthetic peptides in our catalog. Its counterpart, Selank, shares the same Pro-Gly-Pro design feature but is built on a different parent peptide.

Semax is sold for laboratory research only. It is not a drug, food, cosmetic or dietary supplement and is not for human or veterinary use.

Classification. Semax has the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It combines the ACTH(4-7) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, which the literature describes as improving stability. Unlike full-length ACTH, it is described as lacking hormonal activity at the adrenal cortex.

How it has been studied. Semax was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the same institute associated with Selank. Published research includes animal-model studies of neurochemistry and gene expression, particularly work on neurotrophic factor expression in rodent brain tissue. Most of the literature originates from Russian research groups.

Regulatory status. Semax is not approved by the FDA for any use. The A&A Wellness product is a research material for laboratory use only.

Design rationale. Short ACTH fragments are degraded rapidly by enzymes. The Pro-Gly-Pro extension is described as the modification that gives Semax greater stability than its parent fragment, a feature it shares with Selank.
